Ocean Arbutus and Red-Tailed Hawk.

Red-Tailed Hawk with Arbutus Tree.

Red-Tailed Hawks are a favorite too. They soar overhead here around farms! Here is a Red-Tailed Hawk acrylic painting set in the region of the Canadian Gulf Islands/American San Juan Islands and it is going to my good friends Ken and Susan.

Acrylic or oil paint is a choice to make depending on the painting. I paint with whichever suits the painting, and pretty much about the same number of acrylic paintings as oils. The paintings shown on this blog are photo'd using a cell phone, and acrylics photo brighter than oils. Oils were all the rage and in many circles still are. Acrylics offer many technical venues including agents or additives that change the behavior of the paint in terms of drying times, surface tensions, fluidity, transparency etc. While it is true that oils offer similar agents, they are not as efficient or varied as the acrylics have become. Pretty much my home, office and illustrative paintings are acrylic and my larger living room and boardroom paintings are usually oils.

Anyway, thank you for looking and hope you enjoyed your visit.
